Safely to school – with light and superhero power!
Safely to school – with light and superhero power!
When the way to school becomes an adventure, one thing counts above all: safety. The new bicycle lights from SIGMA ensure that children are easily seen at dusk, rain or darkness – and have the best view of the path themselves. Together with the superheroes NYTE and HIRO as well as the curious raccoon KOTA, little cyclists learn how to get to school safely in a playful way. The RIDE SAFE TO SCHOOL campaign is fun – and brings light into the darkness. For a way to school that parents and children can rely on.

Bring colour into everyday life! The AURA 40 / HIRO 10 and the AURA MICRO lighting set contain cool stickers that children can use to customize their lights. This makes safety visible – and at the same time really colourful!
AURA MICRO SET – also for kids with scooters
Trips together with the family are something very special – especially when everyone is safe on the road. The AURA MICRO set by SIGMA was developed exactly for this purpose: Small, light and super easy to use – ideal for children’s bikes and flexible use in everyday life. Whether it’s the way to school at dawn, the spontaneous round after dinner or the way to training: AURA MICRO and HIRO MICRO bring light into the darkness – reliably, safely and child-friendly. So that family bike tours are not only beautiful, but also safe.
“The topic of road safety is very close to my heart. Together with SIGMA, I am committed to making cycling safer for everyone under the motto RIDE SAFE. As a father, I know how important it is for children to get to school safely. Visibility is the be-all and end-all here. The SIGMA lighting is a great solution – robust, easy to use and exactly what our children need on the road.”
Marcel Kittel
Ex-professional cyclist, father of three and SIGMA brand ambassador
“Children not only need the right equipment – they also need to know how to get through traffic safely. That’s why the RIDE SAFE TO SCHOOL campaign inspires me so much: it manages to convey road safety in a creative, understandable and, above all, playful way. That sticks – and that makes the difference. When children learn to take responsibility for themselves and others from an early age, they grow up to be attentive and considerate road users. And that is exactly the big goal. I am convinced that this campaign will bring us a good deal closer to this goal.”

Student teacher & mountain biker in the World Cup
“We experience every day how many families want safe and child-friendly paths for cycling. Good and reliable lighting is a central component for more visibility and safety – especially for our little ones. SIGMA is committed to this with great commitment and genuine conviction – and has been doing so for several years at our side as an official partner. The current campaign is an important and really strong signal: it creates awareness, raises awareness and makes it clear that road safety concerns us all. That’s exactly why we support this campaign from the bottom of our hearts.”

“Visibility prevents accidents – this applies to everyone, but especially to children on bicycles. Far too often, they are harder to see in traffic and therefore particularly vulnerable. That’s why we welcome any initiative that actively improves safety on the way to school. The RIDE SAFE TO SCHOOL campaign is taking exactly the right approach: It combines powerful technology with meaningful education and a child-friendly approach.”

ride safe to school:
How your child starts the new school year safely, healthily and sustainably
The start of the new school year means not only new timetables for children and parents, but also new paths. More and more families are relying on the bicycle as a daily means of transport. No wonder: cycling promotes health, strengthens children’s independence and is at the same time an environmentally friendly alternative to the parent taxi. But for the way to school on two wheels to be not only practical, but also safe, it takes more than just good intentions. The TOP 10 tips for a safe bike path to school:
1. Cycle safely
Before the daily way to school starts, it is worth taking a detour to a cycling course. The German Traffic Watch offers courses and training courses in some cities, where children learn the most important traffic rules in a playful way, practice safe behaviour on the bike and strengthen their ability to react in typical everyday situations.
2. Visibility is security
Especially at dusk, children on bikes are often difficult to see. Reflective clothing, bright colors and clearly visible bicycle lights are therefore essential. With battery-powered lighting such as the AURA 40/ HIRO 10 set from SIGMA, children are safe on the road in city traffic. The AURA 40 impresses with a headlight range of 50 metres and lateral visibility. The HIRO 10 rear light makes cyclists visible from up to 500 meters away. This is how children reach their destination safely.
3. Cycling together in the BiciBus
It is already rolling in over 45 cities: the BiciBus – a group of children who cycle to school together with parents or volunteers according to the principle of a school bus. This makes the way to school safer and a little adventure. Ask your school or municipality – maybe there is already a local initiative?
4. Practice the way to school – also by bike
Children should not only get to know the route on the first day of school. Drive them several times together, discuss danger spots and practice behaviour in road traffic. The traffic patrol recommends: Children should brake safely, give hand signals and pay attention to eye contact with motorists.
5. Be a role model
Children are strongly oriented towards adults. Anyone who waits at the red light themselves, wears a helmet and drives with foresight, shows how to do it correctly.
6. Checklist for the bike
A safe bike needs reliable brakes, evenly inflated tires, a clearly audible bell, the right bike size and for better visibility: white front lighting, red rear lighting, reflectors at the front, rear and on the pedals as well as spoke reflectors. Battery-operated lighting is allowed and usually has more luminosity than lighting for hub dynamos.
7. Helmet on – always!
A well-fitting bicycle helmet is mandatory. It must not wobble, but it must be comfortable. Let your child choose the model – this increases acceptance and enjoyment of safe driving. Checklist and tips for choosing the right helmet can be found here: www.verkehrswacht.de/tipps-fuer-den-passenden-fahrradhelm/
8. Weatherproof clothing
Whether sunshine, rain or headwind: children need suitable clothing for all weather conditions. Highly visible and best with reflective elements. Important: The school bag should fit well and not be too heavy.
9. Know the route – and have alternatives ready
Traffic routing can change quickly. Talk to your child about possible alternative routes and familiarize him or her with construction sites or busy roads.
10. The most beautiful way to self-employment
Cycling to school is more than mobility – it’s a daily step towards growing up. If you trust your child to master the path, you not only give him security, but also self-confidence. A “You can do it!” in the morning and an honest “Well done!” at the finish often work wonders. In this way, every metre ridden becomes a bit more independence – and little cyclists become great traffic experts.
